Autosport International Show 2016 - Live Blog Saturday

9:40 - The show opens up to the public today... let busyness ensue. Hoping at some point today to catch up with Jack Harvey and Nigel Tuckey of Team Pelfry to discuss both of their future plans.

12:02 -More public, more opportunities for autograph sessions for fans, Andrew Jordan and Colin Turkington from BTCC.
Picture
12:35 - Good sit down and chat with Jake Kilshaw from World SportsCar. Jake wrote a blog about being a first time Indycar viewer at the begining of the season and it is great to see him take on new challenges.

14:00 - Met up with Nigel Tuckey of Team Pelfry, he spoke about the teams expansion, and plans for all three levels of the ladder series. We also share a love of a pasty, and the ones at the NEC aren't too bad, I am a very good judge of a pasty being from the region. Audio and a transcript of the interview will be up early next week when I finally venture back down south!

15:05 - Jack Harvey was on the main stage at Autosport talking about his plans and hopes for the coming year. Sadly I ran out of time before we had the chance to talk but will be in touch in the coming week to bring you some news (hopefully good) from the Lincolnshire race driver.

15:30 - Day done for me, to Villa Park, Hopefully not a dire game as I fear, hey, £25, what's to lose when you are used to league two football!!

N.B. - 1-1, was actually pretty good, I retract all written and spoken comments about Villa.

Autosport International Show  2016 - Sunday Live Blog

9:45 - So the last day, it's been a long few days, but some great people met, stories told, pasties shared and beer drunk. Not all at the NEC I hasten to add...

10:05 - Best advice to enjoy a little more space and freedom walking around, get here early! The weekend as seen a growth in retailers, still not masses in Indycar items, they are there if you look hard... As the Race Gear UK stand a rather nice print of Jim Clark has the wallet twitching.
Picture
10:15 - Having followed MSA Formula to a point this year, they have some great races supporting BTCC weekends. I say to a point as my TiVo box died and lost everything. A series which last year featured future star like Lando Norris, and young American (Indycar connection) Colton Herta.

11:54 - Point in the direction of the Pro-Sim stand by Vickie Miller, to meet Jordan Cane, a young British driver looking to make steps forward by joining up with the Mazda Road to Indy in the coming years. We will be hearing from Jordan in the coming weeks.

12:44 - I have always been confused by the dragon Jim Clark, finally have had the story explained to me. Check it out at the Classic Team Lotus stand, by the Williams F1 display.
13:32 - Not saying what, but I am now very much looking forward to the Indy lights races in May.

13:40 - In sponsor loyalty to Matty Brabham, I'll be following Motorbase in BTCC this season, assuming the TiVo box doesn't screw up again.
Picture
14:30 - That's ASI done for a second year, hope you have enjoyed a taste of the not so obvious from the show, plenty more updates and pictures on my Twitter feed. Until next time

A highlight of AIS is that you never know who you will bump into, and we found Nigel Tuckey, Team Principle of Team Pelfrey, who compete in all three steps of the Mazda Road to Indy, having recently completed the acquisition of 8Star Motorsports. We spoke about that, recent success and a future British star.

During the coming week we will have an interview with Jordan Cane to catch up with the young Brit ahead of making his début in USF2000 in St Petersburg this March.

Autosport Show 2016 - Live Blog Friday

11:47 - Day two under way, today's highlights, finally finding the Ford GT and the Dan Wheldon Karting Challenge this evening.

13:56 - A slight delay getting here, dodgy car fuses and ignorant bus drivers! Anyway, first guest on stage is what Peter Griffin would call 'top men', Jean Todt.

Jean praises the marshals and all those who help in the shadows and acknowledges the big problem of money in the industry to ensure all can participate from all levels from grassroots to the top. When asked about the gap in F1, it has always existed, it is a fact of life that all teams will never agree on the what will benefit the sport as they all have their own agendas to protect.

He emphasised the importance of technology and communications in growing F1 to reach fans worldwide.

When asked if there were too many Grand Prix races (21 scheduled for 2016), Jean replied, we are all privileged and we have access to watch f1 where as some don't have drinking water....

Is the balance right in terms of the location of races? The main concern is safety for everyone at the track, stating along with new tracks and locations that traditional locations are important. A balance of tradition and evolution is key.

Closed cockpits in single seaters? Motorsport is dangerous but we must always aim to make it safer.

And with the advent of Formula E and hybrid systems, will we one day see an end of fossil fuel powering race cars? It is challenging, but we are looking at it but it is expensive.
Picture
15:22 - Not always the easiest things to get your hands on, but I have spotted some indycar die casts of various series over the years, when the engineering show is done, more retailers turn up for the weekend and are well worth checking out if that is you thing!

15:33 - ...
Picture
16:27 - "If stars align we could see this again"
Picture
Take from this what you will or even maybe a connected driver, maybe even a TE connected driver...

20:20 - Butt considerably kicked at Gran Tourismo... Holly Wheldon 1 - Adrian Rickard 0

21:00 - Team Moores won the Dan Wheldon Karting Trophy. Lapping all of the field on their way to victory. You can check out the action and hear interviews from those involved both on and off the track at Downforce Radio with commentary from Dave Goddard and Alex Goldschmidt.

More ASI tomorrow until mid afternoon and then a trip to Villa Park in the evening, keep me in your thoughts.

05:30 - Plymouth, next stop Birmingham. Well via the teletubbies services, you know, if you know. if you don't...
Picture
12:02 - A little later than planned I have arrived, first task, find the media office, directions, go left go left keep walking and walking and walking, in all honesty you could add a few more steps, alternatively get off at the second bus stop. For those who haven't been to ASI before at the NEC, it is a huge car, racing, engineering, live action event taking place over four days, hosted by the weekly Motorsport magazine, Autosport.

12:36 - First catch up of many with the guys from Downforce Radio. Looking at how we will be bring DFUSA back to the air for a new year, and a visit to a Thai restaurant tonight. Now off to meet Rob Howden, and a cute lil red thing he brought for the weekend.

13:11 - Having spent a good few well 20 minutes explaining British money, and cricket to the the guys from Mazda Road to Indy looking forward to some presentations throughout the day more to come!
Picture
13:42 - As I few tweeted last night, ASI is a great social event too meeting up with people who you kinda know online, social media, etc (being semi faceless is a funny advantage!), so spotting a lady with distinctive hair dye, hi Sarah, yyyyes? Good that one was right!

14:09 - Oh Indycar? Is that like NASCAR? No.

Talking of that series, here's one of theirs!
Picture
I jest...
Picture
A DW12 would be nice one year, merely pointing that out!

14:30 (ish) - the Autosport main stage has a selection of guests being interviewed throughout the whole day. I missed the all bar the last question this BTCC driver / legend / hero, delete as appropriate.
Picture
15:15 - I attended a seminar with Rob Howden and Michelle Kish from the MRTI and Will Phillips of Indycar. Some interesting nuggets from this, it was mainly about attracting people, teams and drivers to the USA to compete. I'll post some notes from this tomorrow morning, and also a more in depth chat with Rob and Michelle.

16:15 - For those who don't know, the early idea for starting up this website came from a group of us on Twitter from the UK talking about Indycar, we are scattered all over the British Isles, and finally added Matthew Spencer to the list of putting a face to a Twitter handle and a proper Yorkshire accent to boot!

Day done, tomorrow brings me hopefully finding the Ford GT and also the Dan Wheldon Karting Trophy in the evening, you can keep with with the action live on Downforce Radio, commentary lol the race as well as interviews with some of the stars involved.
