Something iv wanted to do for a while, I am looking to host a live chat / commentary via the website during the race giving our own views and opinions on the race as it unfolds. This would only be once a month due to work commitments but ideally I would look for a couple other people to join me. For the cricket fans among you you may be aware of TMS... Test Match Sofa, something along those lines. I would imagine that a beverage or two may be taken so it could get quite lively! Thought I'd just put a post together since Sunday nights coverage sent my phones battery into meltdown with twitter mentions. These comments are observations with a bit of knowledge of the industry, not fact or comment from BT Sport / ESPN UK. That and 140 characters is easily lost in the timeline. 190 days gone, 20 to go, yes the wait is nearly over! As with every season, it brings new fans to the series, be the friends, family, chanel hoppers, etc. so part of the build up to the first race in St Petersburg I would like to collect and share your memeories of your first Indycar race in person (in any of the various series guises!). Which race was it, who did you go with, who did you meet, what stood out for you, what made the day memorable for you, do you have a picture from that race? These are just a few of the themes I am looking to share with fellow fans. If I could also draw your attention to another reason to share memories and understand what they mean and can do, please visit Sporting Memories Network and the Alzheimers Society. Nothing like long term commitment! Press release from BT Sport below... BT Sport and ESPN have signed a seven-year agreement to expand the range of ESPN content on BT Sport. The agreement also covers the use of the ESPN brand and potential joint digital media initiatives. The new long-term collaboration builds on the successful relationship between both brands following the acquisition of ESPN’s UK and Ireland television business by BT plc in 2013. As part of the new deal, BT Sport has the opportunity to use the ESPN brand in a range of different ways with ESPN remaining part of the BT Sport channel line-up for the long-term. The deal will see BT Sport expand the amount of programming it receives from ESPN, up to 5000 hours per year. Among a wide range of content, programming supplied during the course of the agreement will typically feature the Verizon IndyCar Series, NCAA College Football and Basketball, X Games, the AFL (Australian Football League) and more. There is also enhanced availability of existing content supplied by ESPN, such as the Emmy Award-winning ESPN Films documentary series, plus the introduction to BT Sport of world football show ESPN FC, and some of the most well-known brands in US sport television including Pardon The Interruption and Around The Horn. In the months ahead, BT and ESPN will continue to explore ways the two companies can collaborate around various digital media initiatives. Additional elements to the deal include the ability for BT Sport to take in key ESPN-supplied programming directly to its studios in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park handing greater flexibility and efficiencies to both parties. John Petter, chief executive, BT Consumer, said: “Continuing with ESPN, one of the world’s leading sports brands, as part of the BT Sport portfolio is a win for our viewers, our partners and sport fans in the UK and Ireland. Our relationship with ESPN since BT Sport began operation of the ESPN channel in the UK and Ireland has been a big success, with the two companies collaborating on a number of initiatives.” Charly Classen, vice president and general manager, ESPN – Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “ESPN continues to be a key part of the UK sports landscape through the channel and content in the BT Sport lineup, as well as our successful and growing digital and content sales business in the region. We’re thrilled with what has been a unique and successful collaboration with BT Sport over the past couple years, and are excited it will continue and expand over the long term, delivering great content and service to UK sports fans.” After chatting with the guys from traveldestinations.co.uk at the Autosport show this past weekend we got talking about the 100th Indy 500 (2016), they currently do not offer a package to the race but if we could identify some good levels interest to travel to the race there is a possibility something could be set up. There are a couple companies out there which do a trip to the 500 but can be very short and do not offer a fuller experience for the race itself, including the lead up days, events in the city, etc. that we could put on. A tour rep, i.e. me would be available throughout. As this is something in the very early stages of planning, we would like to know what you would like in your package, from flights, car hire, pre race parties (free and pay), museum, and more. At the moment there is no commitment but we will hold your email and get back in touch if there the possibility to take this on. If you are interested in this please use the contact form below to register interest plus what you would like to add. Basic package would be a Hotel and Race Day Ticket. For the non-drivers, race day transportation information available from HERE. Thank you, Adrian THIS HAS NOW CLOSED - WE OFFER TRAVEL GUIDES WHICH ARE AVAILABLE HERE * - Package could be sold as a event only, with no flights depending on when you wanted to arrive / depart
** - A Bronze Badge will gain you access to IMS all month from Day 1 of GP of Indy through to Legends Day (Saturday before the 500), please note it does not allow access on the race day of the GP of Indy or the Indy 500. How you would like to see the series covered from all aspects? We would love to hear your thoughts. I will keep the form open for a week, when all opinions and suggestions will be collated and forwarded onto the production company after the 14th November. Thank you for your time and thoughts, please remember these will be passed onto the producers but there are always time and cost implications!
A look back at the 2014 Indycar season will be on BT Sport next weekend as a look back at all the motorsport that BT cover on their various platforms so expect some WRC, MotoGP, WSR and more. Part 1 is on Saturday at 16:30 - 20:30 and Part 2 on Sunday from 16:15 - 20:00 both on BT Sport 2, look out for Motorsport Tonight in the listings. Looking ahead to 2015 and the Road to Indy (USF2000 and Pro Mazda), Motors TV will be carrying some highlights shows throughout the year, more nearer the time. And finally, just a reminder, Indycar will continue to be broadcast on the BT Sport umbrella of channels in 2015, but expect most of them to be on ESPN and BT Sport 2. Posting tomorrow will be a form that you can contribute your ideas on how BT cover Indycar in the UK, once compiled, these will be passed on to the shows producers, which is great to see they are looking for fan input next year. Thanks to Tom for these updates, firstly Indycar, and BT Sport will be broadcasting a weekly motor sport show on Tuesday evenings for an hour from 8pm, the details of the show are 'covering motor sport from across all BT Sport platforms' so we will wait and see on that front...
And also good news for followers of the Mazda Road to Indy, Motors TV will broadcast selected races throughout the season, more details are available here. The first Indycar race of the season is live on ESPN UK Sunday evening from 8pm. Given the short gap between each race this coming season I have decided not to do the same race review format as last year. It would be touch and go getting them in and up before being superseded by the next weekends race. But a big thank you to the eighteen Indycar fans that spent their time writing for us, it was great to get so many people writing about Indycar, some for the first time.
I did still want to do something though so you could get your opinions out there without being limited to 140 character and .... skipping .... tweets .... in... the... timeline! So this year, after each race I will be posting 4-5 questions / topics that arose from the race on the website for you to give your thoughts on. These will be live for around 24 hours, where I will then put together and publish them. no pre-registration or anything, just contributions after the race. Not primarily looking for just UK based fans either, anyone can get involved this time round. First one will be up next Sunday evening! Adrian As they have now appeared on some EGP's a quick heads up for a couple of highlight shows coming up on Motors TV over the coming weeks. If you listen to Trackside on 1070 the fan, you may have heard Kevin Lee talk about the USF2000 and Pro Mazda NBCSN shows which he provided commentary for along side Jeremy Shaw and Conor Daly, these are going to be broadcast in the UK shortly. Dates & Times -
U.S F2000 is 17th November at 6.25pm Pro Mazda is on the 23rd November at 6.55pm Both are due to be repeated in December There is some British interest in USF2000 in the shape of Michael Epps and James Fletcher, and in Pro Mazda with Lloyd Read. For details about how to find Motors TV click HERE |
